When you're in Disney World, it can feel like you're in a whole new world :) In fact, right as you enter Magic Kingdom, there is even a sign with a quote that says,
"Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy"
With this new world comes a new language :) There are some words and phrases that are unique to the Disney experience. If you're relatively new to the experience though, these words may sound totally foreign. So here we start defining Disney lingo:
Rope Drop
This term refers to how the parks start letting guests in early, though areas leading to attractions are "roped" off until official park opening. The parks begin letting guests in an hour before the listed park opening, and at the time of park opening the "rope drops" and guests can head off to the attractions! So for example, at Magic Kingdom, Main Street and the castle area are open to explore, shop, and get pictures, but the entrances to the various lands have a rope in front of them until rope drop.
Rope dropping a park is one of the best ways to ride attractions with the lowest wait times during the early morning hours! If you're up for an early morning, it's so worth it!

Extra Magic Hours
Extra Magic Hours refers to the time the parks are open earlier or later only for those staying at a Disney Resort. Usually for one hour or two. This is super nice because lines are much lower, giving you time to get in as much as possible before/after the parks get packed!
Be sure to check the calendar during your trip to find out when and where this magic is happening!
Park Hop
You can add the "Park Hopper" option when you purchase your park tickets, which will allow you to visit multiple parks in one day! Rather than only one park per ticket that you get with a base ticket. (You can also get the Park Hopper Plus option, which will allow you to visit any parks and the water parks in one day.) So you would be park hopping if you went to Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios at night!
This is great for short trips to fit everything in. This was super handy during our trip at Christmas as some parks closed early for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. If a park we were in closed early, we would just hop on over to another for the evening!
Hub Grass
This is the green grass area in Magic Kingdom between Main Street and the castle. More specifically, it's located outside Casey's Corner on one side of Main Street and the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor on the other. I HIGHLY recommend grabbing a meal or snack from either of these places and enjoying it on the hub grass! It's the perfect spot to sit and take a break during a busy day at MK :)
Queue
The queues refer to the lines you wait in for the attractions. The queues at Disney are designed to make waiting to ride an attraction more enjoyable. So many intricate details are put into place and they are so fun to observe-- or interact with! Some of the queues, like for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and The Many Adventure of Winnie the Pooh, have fun games to play while you walk through the line. Other rides, like Tower of Terror and Flights of Passage, completely submerge you in another world with the decor.
Pixie Dust
Random acts of kindness or extra special moments that happen in Disney are referred to as pixie dust!
Once, my mom and I ordered one dole whip to share, and the cast member gave us two! This was a sprinkling of pixie dust :) Another time, cast members that were helping us at our dinner at the Contempo Cafe noticed my parents' anniversary buttons, then after our meal brought them a dessert tray *literally* sprinkled with pixie dust! Other spottings of pixie dust for us have been getting extra fastpasses and room upgrades!
Hidden Mickey
A Hidden Mickey is the three circles that make up the shape of the Mickey head that has been subtly designed into *anything.* Hidden Mickey's are located throughout the parks, in movies, in resorts, or any Disney product. It's so fun to hunt for these or simply just come across them in the day-to-day activities in Disney!
These are just a few of the unique words in the Disney language. There are, of course, many others, but these are some of my favorites and some you may come across during your next trip!
Have the best day ever!
